St. Cloud State defeated Wayne State 5-1 in the NSIC women's soccer opener Saturday afternoon in Wayne. Wayne State is now 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC. St. Cloud State Moves to 2-2-2 and 1-0 in league play.
Jenn Clifford and Chelsey Permenter each scored two goals for the Huskies on the afternoon. Alex Pafko started the scoring for the Huskies at 22:58 of the first half to give SCSU a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half St. Cloud State scored twice to take a 3-0 lead by goals from Permenter and Mary Morhardt. Wayne State's Megan Dias added a goal at the 57:20 mark of the second half to make the score 3-1. Permenter and Clifford each scored a goal late in the second half to make the final score 5-1.
St. Cloud State outshot Wayne State 23 to seven and had a 10 to five advantage on shots on goal. SCSU had five corner kicks against WSC's two.
Wayne State will be at home again Sunday afternoon, hosting Concordia, St. Paul in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 1:00 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Complex.
