The Wayne State College soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-1 double overtime time tie with St. Cloud State in NSIC Women's Soccer action Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Wayne State was led by senior Tiffani Kellerman (Bellevue, Nebraska) who scored the Wildcats lone goal in the stalemate. Wayne State who started the day in eighth place in the NSIC needed an Upper Iowa loss to advance to the 2010 NSIC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Peacocks defeated MSU Moorhead 2-1 this afternoon eliminating the Wildcats from post season play. The Wildcats finish the season with an overall record of 8-5-5 and a 4-4-5 record in the NSIC.
The Wildcats struck first at the 13:01 mark of the first half when Kellerman scored her fifth goal of the season off of a pass by Liz Israelsen to give Wayne State a 1-0 lead. The Huskies wasted little time tying the game at 1-1 at the 14:51 mark of the first half as Brooke Eggen scored her fourth goal of the season with assists from Mary Morhardt and Teresa Gazich.
The Huskies put pressure on the Wildcats in the first half outshooting Wayne State 9-3. St. Cloud State also added three corner kicks in the stanza with one of the corner kicks leading to the tying goal by Eggen.
The Wildcats looked to take the lead late in the second stanza as Israelsen headed a ball wide off of a corner kick by Kelsey Meyer. Macy Hagen also blasted a shot wide late in the second half as part of the Wildcat's late offensive push.
WSC controlled the action in both overtimes outshooting the Huskies 3-0. Two of the Wildcats three shots in overtime came in the final three minutes of the match as Israelsen and Meyer each added shots on goal.
SCSU outshot Wayne Sate 15-9 in the Match. The Huskies also had the advantage in corner kicks 15-11.
Wayne State was led by Kellerman who scored her fifth goal of the season in her final game in a Wildcat uniform. Israelsen added three shots on the afternoon to go along with an assist. Senior goalkeeper Emily Walker finished the game with seven saves in her final game in goal at Wayne State.
Today's game marked the final game for seven Wildcat seniors, Emily Walker, Anna Walker, Megan Dias, Julie Miller, Stephanie Bright, Mikayla Comba and Tiffani Kellerman. The Wildcats ended the 2010 season on a four game unbeaten streak.
