Wayne State 1 Southwest Minnesota State 1 2 OT

            Wayne
State College settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie vs. Southwest Minnesota State Friday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played in Wayne, Nebraska.  The Wildcats outshot the Mustangs 32-10 in the contest, but could not get a second goal to clinch the victory.  WSC is now 4-3-4 overall and 0-2-4 in league play while SMSU is 1-6-2 and 0-4-2 in the NSIC.

The visiting Mustangs opened the scoring early in the contest as Kelly Fitzgerald found the back of the net on a 10-yard shot just right of the goal to put SMSU in front 1-0.  The score stayed that way until the 57:56 mark of the second half when Alexa Romek notched her first collegiate goal on a header off a corner kick in front of the goal, making the score 1-1.  The Wildcats were the aggressor in the second half, outshooting the Mustangs 14-3 and had several scoring chances.  With just under four minutes to play, Wildcat senior Megan Dias got free on a breakaway but her shot bounced off the right post, denying WSC of a golden scoring opportunity that sent the game into overtime.

In the overtime sessions, WSC outshot SMSU 7-4 and had three corner kicks to one for the Mustangs, but neither team found the goal ending the contest in a 1-1 double overtime tie.

Wayne State ended the contest with a sizeable 32-10 edge in shots and 12-4 in shots on goal.  The Wildcats also had 10 corner kicks to four for SMSU.  Wildcat senior goalkeeper Emily Walker was credited with three saves in the contest.

Wayne State College will be at home again Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. hosting Minnesota State in a Northern Sun Conference contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
