Seven-run second inning gives #26 Southern Indiana 12-1 win over WSC

NCAA Division II 26th-ranked Southern Indiana used a seven-run second inning to defeat Wayne State 12-1 Sunday afternoon in non-conference college baseball at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament in Evansville, Indiana.  The host Eagles are now 8-4 on the season while WSC falls to 4-8.

Southern Indiana's Caleb Ehmke had a solo homer and a three-run double to highlight the Eagles' seven run outburst in the second inning.  SIU added two more runs in the third and three more in the sixth to lead 12-0.  WSC scored its' lone run of the game in the seventh when Jake Ritzdorf singled and came around to score on Jerad Barth's RBI double down the left field line.

SIU had 14 hits in the game to eight for WSC.  Barth had the lone extra base hit for the 'Cats, a double.  Justin Beranek and Tadd Johansen each went 2 for 4 at the plate while Joe Wendte, Nick Bidroski and Ritzdorf each singled for the Wildcats.

Josh Voth (0-1) was tagged with the pitching loss for the Wildcats while Reid Lancaster and Josh Nelsen both worked in relief.

Wayne State will face Southern Indiana in a nine inning game on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
