Wayne State Women's Soccer team opens up 2010 NSIC schedule with 2-2 tie

                The Wayne State College women's soccer team opened the 2010 NSIC schedule with a 2-2 tie against Northern State at the Wayne State College Soccer Complex in Wayne, America Saturday afternoon. Wayne State's Megan Dias scored two goals for WSC in the second half to lead the Wildcats charge. The tie makes the Wildcats 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the NSIC and the Wolves 2-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference.

            The Wolves got on the board in the first half when Liz Royce launched a shot from 25 yards out to give NSU the 1-0 advantage. Wayne State struggled offensively in the first half, but came out aggressive in the second half. The Wildcats got on the board as Dias snuck a shot inside the left goal post to tie the game at the 65:19 mark of the second half. Dias would put the Wildcats ahead 2-1 at the 70:15 mark of the second stanza when Dias fired a shot right under the crossbar from 25 yards out.

            The Wolves battled back and tied the game at 2-2 at the 78:15 mark of the second when Tia Lopez buried a shot from in front of the Wildcats goal. The Wolves controlled the tempo in both overtimes outshooting Wayne State 5-0. But the Wildcats defense stood their ground as the two teams worked to a 2-2 tie.

            The Wolves outshot Wayne State 20-13 in the game. The two teams each battled for corner kicks as NSU had six and the Wildcats had five.

            Dias led Wayne State with two goals on the afternoon and now has seven goals on the season. Liz Israelsen had two shots on the afternoon with one reaching net. Emily Walker had five saves on the day including a game saving stop late in the second half.

            Wayne State College will be at home again Sunday afternoon, hosting the University of Mary at 1:00 p.m. in a Northern Sun Conference contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
