Minnesota Duluth hands WSC women's soccer 1-0 OT setback

Minnesota Duluth 1 Wayne State 0 OT

            Minnesota Duluth's Kelli Klun scored on a header 2:50 into the first overtime to give the host Bulldogs a 1-0 win over Wayne State in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played Saturday afternoon in Duluth, Minnesota.  With the win, UMD is now 6-5-1 overall and 6-3 in league play while Wayne State falls to 3-8-2 on the season and 0-7-1 in the NSIC.

            Despite Minnesota Duluth holding a 13-2 edge in shots in the first half, the contest was scoreless as WSC had two shots on goal to just one for UMD.  The Bulldogs outshot WSC 8-3 in the second half and held a 4-1 edge in the overtime to finish the contest with a 25-6 shot advantage over the Wildcats.

            Minnesota Duluth had nine corner kicks to just one for WSC while the Wildcats were called for nine fouls compared to six on the Bulldogs.

            Norma Volkmer had two of Wayne State's six shots in the contest while Darian Mochizuki, Christie Johnson and McKenna Adams each had shots on goal for the Wildcats.  Goalkeeper Ryan Wells was credited with four saves in the game while allowing just the one goal. 

            Wayne State will be in action again Sunday afternoon as the Wildcats visit Bemidji State in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 1:00 p.m.
