Minnesota State, ranked 21st in this week's Division II National Soccer Coaches Association of America Poll, defeated Wayne State in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minnesota with the Mavericks winning 4-0 over the Wildcats.
MSU outshot WSC 20-4 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal in the contest. Minnesota State also had three corner kicks while Wayne State had zero and each team was whistled for seven fouls.
Four different players for Minnesota State had goals on the afternoon as Brittany Henry, Sarah Schellinger, Courtney Vallarelli and Brianne West each scored for the Mavericks. For Wayne State, Liz Israelsen was the most aggressive Wildcat with three shots but was unable to find the back of the net. Ryan Wells was in the net for the 'Cats and recorded three saves in the loss as her goalie record slides to 3-6-2. Mavericks goalkeeper Molly McGough recorded two saves in her shutout of Wayne State and improved her goalie record to 9-1-1.
The Wildcats will be on the road again Sunday afternoon, visiting Southwest Minnesota State in a 1:00 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contest in Marshall, Minnesota.
