Wildcat women's soccer shut out at Northern State 2-0

            Despite outshooting Northern State 20-7 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal, Wayne State College suffered a 2-0 loss at Northern State Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  The Wildcats fall to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC while Northern State moves to 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

            The first half was scoreless despite WSC holding a 12-4 advantage in shots over the host Wolves.  Northern State opened the scoring early in the second half in the 52nd minute when Ashley Elliott blasted a 20-yard shot past Wildcat goalkeeper Ryan Wells for a 1-0 lead.  The Wolves added another goal at the 64:09 mark when Rachel Goslinga scored an unassisted goal for the 2-0 win.

            WSC outshot Northern State 20-7 in the contest and 7-4 in shots on goal while also holding a 3-1 edge in corner kicks over the Wolves.  Both teams were called for 10 fouls while WSC was called for offsides seven times compared to none for Northern State.

            Senior Kelsey Meyer had five shots to lead WSC followed by Liz Israelsen with four.  Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Wells was credited with two saves while allowing two goals in the loss.  

            Wayne State returns to action on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. hosting Simpson College in a non conference contest starting at 5:00 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Complex.
