Gebhardt, Frauendorfer rally #20 Wayne State in 3-1 win at Minot State

            Elizabeth Gebhardt and Alyssa Frauendorfer combined for 29 kills and 13 blocks to help #20 Wayne State College rally for a 24-26, 25-17, 25-19 and 26-24 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win Saturday evening at Minot State in Minot, North Dakota.  The Wildcats are now 21-9 on the season and 12-8 in the NSIC while Minot State falls to 12-18 and 7-13 in league play.
            The first set saw Minot State record 20 kills to just 10 by WSC, but the Wildcats stayed close forcing nine Minot State attack errors before the Beavers posted the 26-24 set win.
            The Wildcats rebounded in the second set recording 18 kills with just two attack errors to pick up the 25-17 set win and even the match at 1-1.
            Wayne State continued their hot hitting in the third set with 17 kills and just two errors for a .366 attack percentage to top Minot State 25-19.
            The fourth set was a battle featuring 10 ties and three lead changes as WSC rallied from a 20-16 deficit to pick up the 26-24 set win and earn the 3-1 match win.
            Wayne State hit .257 for the match compared to Minot State's .214. Minot State had seven more kills than WSC, 65-58, but WSC had just 13 attack errors compared to Minot's 26.  Wayne State also held a sizeable 11-4 advantage in blocks over the Beavers.
            Sophomore Elizabeth Gebhardt paced Wayne State with 15 kills to go with five blocks followed by freshman middle hitter Alyssa Frauendorfer with 14 kills and a career-high eight blocks.  Senior Cori Hobbs added 14 kills and 12 digs for the Wildcats.
            Sophomore libero Courtney VanGroningen recorded 25 digs with Katie Hughes adding 15 and Michaela Mestl 12.  The Wildcats tied a season-high with 10 service aces and Hughes was credited with five service aces in the win.  Sophomore setter Leisa McClintock accounted for 46 set assists.
            Wayne State has earned the #6 seed for the NSIC/US Bank Volleyball Tournament and will travel to #3 seed Southwest Minnesota State for a first round match Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Marshall, Minnesota.
