Box Score Northern State 5 Wayne State 3

Wayne State College scored three goals late, but the rally fell just short as Northern State recorded a 5-3 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex in Wayne.  The visiting Wolves moved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play with the win while dropping Wayne State to 0-5 and 0-2.
Northern State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, scoring their three goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest.  The Wolves scored just 54 seconds into the second half for a 4-0 lead and scored again in the 64th minute for a 5-0 advantage.  But Wayne State made things interesting with a flurry of three goals in the next 16 minutes.
Hailey Smith scored the first Wayne State goal off a free kick in front of the net by McKenna Adams at the 67:29 mark to make the score 5-1.  The 'Cats scored again at the 78:19 mark when Kelly Voigt found the back of the net following a Wildcat corner kick to cut the Northern State lead to 5-2.  Wayne State scored less than two minutes later when Kelsey Engstrom blasted a 30-yard shot over the hands of Wolves goalkeeper Brittany Tietz at the 80:54 mark to make the score 5-3.  But Northern State withstood the Wildcat rally and held on in the final nine minutes to pick up the 5-3 win.
Northern State held a 12-11 advantage in shots over Wayne State.  Both teams had four corner kicks and six fouls.
Wayne State was led by Smith, Voigt and Engstrom who each scored goals for the Wildcats.  McKenna Adams, Makenzie Evans and Alex Mathers were each credited with assists.  Goalkeeper Kylie Comba made three saves.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
