#8 Wayne State gets back on winning track with 3-0 sweep of Minot State

            The Wayne State College volleyball team bounced back from back-to-back losses with a 3-0 sweep over Minot State at Rice Auditorium on Friday night with scores of the match going 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18. Senior outside hitter Cori Hobbs led the 'Cats in kills with 12 to help Wayne State improve to 10-2 overall and 2-2 in league play while Minot State falls to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC.
            The Wildcats and Beavers played back and forth in the first set battling to a score of 20-17 before WSC rattled off five straight points to close out the set with a score of 25-17. Wayne State outhit Minot State in the first set .158-.000 as WSC has 13 kills and seven errors on 38 attacks while the Beavers had seven kills and seven errors on 32 attacks. Wayne State's defense picked up in the second set and forced Minot State into a negative hitting percentage of -.026 with seven kills and eight errors on 38 attacks while WSC hit .243 (15 kills and six errors on 37 attacks). The Wildcats would then finish off the sweep by hitting .317 in the final set (16-3-41) while holding the Beavers to .162 (13-7-37).
            Wayne State outhit Minot State in the contest .241-.047 as the 'Cats had 44 kills and 16 errors on 116 attacks while the Beavers had 27 kills and 22 errors on 107 total attacks. WSC would also edge Minot State in assists (41-26), service aces (3-2) and digs (56-45). Minot State did have the advantage over Wayne State in blocks eight to six.
            Cori Hobbs led Wayne State offensively with 12 kills and two errors on 32 attacks for a hitting percentage of .312. Hobbs added 17 digs to her 12 kills for her seventh double-double of the season. Alyssa Frauendorfer and Katie Beiermann each had seven kills for WSC while Elizabeth Gebhardt and Leisa McClintock had six. McClintock led the team in hitting percentage at .455 with the six kills and one error on 11 attacks while also pacing the team in assists with 33. Hobbs' 17 digs led WSC while Courtney VanGroningen recorded 16 digs and Katie Hughes had 10.
            Minot State was led by Jen Dixon's nine kills and Mallory Sall was second with eight kills. Emily Byrne was credited with 15 assists and Whitney Hightower led the Beavers in digs with nine.
            Wayne State will be at home on Saturday afternoon hosting the University of Mary on homecoming in a 4 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contest at Rice Auditorium.
