            Sophomore right side hitter Liz Gebhardt hit a sizzling .909 with 10 kills on just 11 attacks and also recorded a team-high four blocks to lead the #8 Wayne State College volleyball team in a 25-18, 25-23 and 25-13 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep Saturday afternoon over the University of Mary at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  WSC is now 11-2 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC while Mary falls to 3-9 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
            The first set was close early with the Wildcats trailing 10-8, but WSC scored four straight points and went in front 12-10 and never looked back in taking the opening set 25-18. 
The Marauders got off to another strong start in the second set and led 13-8 forcing WSC to call time out.  The Wildcats slowly chipped away at the Mary lead and took a 22-20 lead on a kill by Alyssa Frauendorfer and later sealed the set with a Liz Gebhardt kill to win 25-23. 
The third set was all Wildcats as WSC had 16 kills and just three attack errors while forcing Mary into six attack errors as the Wildcats completed the sweep with a 25-13 win.
            Wayne State outhit the Marauders in the match .254 to .172 and had a 47-32 advantage in kills over Mary.  Cori Hobbs led a balanced attack for the Wildcats with 12 kills and 12 digs followed by Alyssa Frauendorfer with 11 kills and Gebhardt with 10 along with her team-high four blocks.  Courtney VanGroningen contributed 11 digs in the win while sophomore setter Leisa McClintock had 37 set assists.
            The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend, visiting MSU Moorhead Friday night and Northern State Saturday night in a pair of 7 p.m. Northern Sun Conference matches.
