#13 Wayne State sweeps Mary

            Wayne State College forced 27 University of Mary attack errors, holding the Marauders to a .010 attack percentage, as the 13th-ranked Wildcats recorded a 25-12, 25-22 and 25-13 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep Friday evening in Bismarck, North Dakota.  The Wildcats move to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in league play while the host Marauders drop to 3-15 and 0-9 in the NSIC.
            The Wildcats controlled the first set 25-12 thanks to 11 attack errors by the Marauders.
            The second set was much closer as WSC trailed for most of the set and rallied from a 22-20 deficit to score the final five points for a 25-22 set win.
            The third and final set saw WSC hit a match-high .379 with 14 kills as the Wildcats cruised to a 25-13 set win to complete the sweep.
            Wayne State hit .202 for the match (36 kills, 16 errors) while holding Mary to a .010 attack percentage (28 kills, 27 errors).  Mary held a slight edge in blocks over WSC, 8-6, while recording 43 digs to 39 by the Wildcats.
            Katie Hughes, Alyssa Frauendorfer and Elizabeth Gebhardt each accounted for eight kills to lead Wayne State in hitting followed by Michaela Mestl with seven.  Mestl had 12 digs with Hughes adding 10 while Leisa McClintock handed out 31 set assists.  Sophomore Alex Opperman led WSC in blocks with five followed by Gebhardt with four.
            Wayne State will be on the road again Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. match at Minot State.
