Lane Yates gained 121 yards on the ground with two scores on just 11 carries to lead Wayne State College in a 54-14 trouncing of Concordia-St. Paul Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference football played at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota. With its third straight win, WSC is now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC South Division while Concordia-St. Paul drops to 1-5 and 0-2 in the NSIC South.
The Wildcats scored touchdowns on four of six possessions in the first half to take a 31-14 halftime lead, then put the game out of reach in the third quarter by scoring touchdowns on its first three series to build a 51-14 lead after three quarters.
WSC marched 96 yards using 15 plays to score on its first series of the game with junior
Ryan Ludlow finding the end zone on a one yard plunge for a 7-0 Wildcat lead.
Early in the second quarter, WSC took a 10-0 lead thanks to a 24 yard field goal from sophomore
Tyler Lindsay. The 'Cats took a 17-0 lead with 9:18 to play in the second quarter following a 12 yard run by freshman running back
Lane Yates.
After CU scored to make it 17-7, WSC responded with a 75 yard drive on 10 plays, capped by a 35-yard scoring pass from Osborn to
Cole McDaniel giving the 'Cats a 24-7 lead with 3:41 remaining before halftime. The host Golden Bears scored again to make it 24-14, but WSC used a late drive and scored with seven seconds left before halftime as Osborn found senior
Adam Stark on a 16 yard scoring play to make the score 31-14 at halftime.
Wayne State scored on its first three possessions of the second half with two resulting off Concordia-St. Paul turnovers.
The first score was a
Lane Yates 34-yard scamper, putting WSC ahead 38-14 with 12:45 to go in the third quarter. The Wildcats scored 13 seconds later on defense as senior linebacker
Nick Monzu picked up a fumble and raced 27 yards for a score, giving WSC a 44-14 advantage.
Following a
Chase Samuel interception that gave WSC the ball at the CU 12 yard line, McDaniel hauled in a 12-yard reception from Osborn to push the Wildcat lead to 51-14 with 10:36 remaining in the third quarter.
The lone score of the game in the fourth quarter was a
Tyler Lindsay 31 yard field goal with 11:28 to play as Wayne State finished with a 54-14 win.
Wayne State outgained Concordia-St. Paul in the contest 555-246 with the 'Cats gaining 186 yards on the ground and 369 passing. The Wildcats scored 32 points off Golden Bear turnovers in the contest.
True freshman
Lane Yates paced Wayne State's rushing attack with 121 yards on 11 carries and two scores. Redshirt freshman Alex Kline added 29 yards on 13 rushes while junior

Adam Stark had a team-high eight catches for 84 yards and one score while senior
Cole McDaniel added seven receptions for 101 yards and two scores. It was his fifth game this season with at least seven catches and his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season. Senior
Cody Calhoun added four catches for 61 yards.
Wayne State's defense was led by junior linebacker
Nate Kroupa with a career-high 10 tackles. Junior safety
Jon Davis followed with eight. Senior linebacker
Nick Monzu added six stops and a fumble recovery touchdown of 27 yards.
Chase Samuel and
DeWayne Scott each added interceptions for the Wildcats.
The Wildcat will be at home next Saturday afternoon facing Augustana College in a 1 p.m. NSIC South Division contest at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.
