Opperman's career-high 11 kills help #13 Wildcats top MSU Moorhead

            Four Wildcat achieved double figure kills, led sophomore Alex Opperman's career-high 11, as #13 Wayne State College topped MSU Moorhead 3-1 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played Saturday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  WSC is now 14-2 on the season and 7-1 in league play while MSU Moorhead falls to 7-9 and 2-6 in the NSIC.
            The Wildcats controlled the first set, forcing nine Dragon attack errors, to cruise in a 25-14 set win.  The Dragon pulled even in the second set, rallying from a 22-20 deficit, to edge the Wildcats 25-23 to even the match at 1-1.
            Wayne State never trailed in the third set, building an 18-10 lead before finishing with a 25-21 set win.  The Wildcats controlled the fourth set, building an early 12-4 lead which led to a 25-17 set win to take the match 3-1.
            Wayne State hit .230 for the match compared to .149 for the Dragons.  WSC had nine more kills than MSU Moorhead (57-48) and had 73 digs to 65 for the Dragons. 
            Sophomore Alex Opperman's career-high 11 kills led a balanced WSC effort at the net.  Elizabeth Gebhardt and Katie Hughes also had 11 kills each with Leisa McClintock adding 10.  McClintock finished with her third double-double of the year, accounting for 10 kills, 13 digs and 45 set assists while Hughes recorded her eighth double-double of the year with 14 digs along with her 11 kills.
            Junior libero Courtney VanGroningen led WSC in digs with 22 followed by Michaela Mestl with 16.  Hughes had a team-high three service aces with McClintock adding two.
            Wayne State will be on the road next weekend, visiting the University of Mary Friday night at 7 p.m. and Minot State Saturday in a 2 p.m. contest.
