Katie Hughes recorded a career-high 20 kills to go with 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season Friday evening to lead #19 Wayne State College in a 25-18, 25-19 and 28-26 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win at Bemidji State. The Wildcats improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the league while the host Beavers drop to 2-8 and 0-2 in the NSIC.
The first set saw junior rightside hitter
Elizabeth Gebhardt and Hughes lead WSC with six and five kills respectively as the Wildcats hit .326 in the set with 17 kills for a 25-18 win.
The second set saw the Wildcats force seven Bemidji State attack errors, thanks to four WSC blocks, as the 'Cats rolled to a 25-19 win over the Beavers.
Hughes took over the match in the third set for the Wildcats pounding out 11 kills in the set as WSC held back Bemidji State for a 28-26 win to complete the sweep.
Wayne State hit .287 for the match compared to .209 for Bemidji State. WSC had nine more kills than the Beavers, 53-44, and had 50 digs to 43 for BSU. WSC also had one more block than the Beavers, 7-6.
