Elizabeth Gebhardt combined for 33 kills to lead #19 Wayne State College in a 3-1 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win Saturday afternoon at Minnesota Crookston. Scores of the match were 25-15, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-22. WSC is now 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in the NSIC while the host Golden Eagles fall to 7-4 and 1-2 in league play.
Wayne State led from start to finish in the first two sets, hitting .286 in the first set while holding UMC to a .000 attack percentage forcing seven attack errors as the 'Cats rolled 25-15 in the first set. The second set saw the Wildcats post a .217 attack percentage with 14 kills while forcing six more UMC attack errors to roll to another 25-15 set win.
The third set saw the host Golden Eagles hit .400 with 14 kills and no attack errors as UMC stayed alive with a 25-21 set win.
But WSC used six Frauendorfer kills in the fourth set and two service aces by
Leisa McClintock to highlight the Wildcats' 25-22 win to complete the 3-1 match victory.
Wayne State finished the match with a .233 attack percentage compared to .146 for Minnesota Crookston. The Wildcats held a 61-42 edge in kills and an 84-82 advantage in digs over the Golden Eagles. Both teams had six service aces while UMC had one more block than WSC, 6-5.
Frauendorfer led WSC in hitting with 17 kills on just one attack error for a .471 percentage. She also had three blocks. Gebhardt followed with 16 kills while
Katie Hughes notched 10 kills with 21 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
