Box Score Augustana 50 Wayne State 19 Augustana University scored 22 unanswered points in the last quarter and a half to pull away for a 50-19 Northern Sun Conference football win over Wayne State Saturday afternoon at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The host Vikings move to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC South while WSC drops to 3-4 on the season and 0-3 in divisional play.
The Vikings scored on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead on the Wildcats. WSC got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when senior
Ryan Ludlow plunged in from two yards out, capping an 18 play, 75 yard drive that chewed up 9:37 on the clock making the score 14-6 after the PAT kick was blocked.
Following an Augustana score that put the Vikings in front 21-6, WSC scored again when redshirt freshman quarterback
Layne Sullivan scampered 39 yards for a touchdown to conclude an 11 play, 93 yard drive by the Wildcats to make the score 21-13 with 3:04 to play before halftime.
But Augustana scored just before halftime on a 13-yard pass from Trey Heid to Jason Greenway with just 26 seconds to play giving the Vikings a 28-13 lead at intermission.
Wayne State scored on their first series of the third quarter as Sullivan rambled 14 yards for a score, culminating an 83 yard drive that covered 10 plays, pulling WSC within 28-19 with 7:26 to play in the third quarter.
Augustana then put the game out of reach by scoring on their next three drives, covering 80, 61 and 46 yards, and added a safety late to make the final score 50-19.
The Vikings held a 531-301 advantage in total offense over the Wildcats. WSC gained 247 yards rushing and just 54 passing while Augustana had 169 rushing and 362 passing.
Wayne State held a sizeable advantage in time of possession, 41:13-18:47, but Augustana converted on 9 of 11 third downs to 5 of 14 for Wayne State.
Sullivan led the Wildcat offense, producing 156 yards rushing on 27 carries while scoring twice on runs of 14 and 39 yards. Senior running back
Ryan Ludlow added another 127 yards on 29 attempts and one score. Throwing the ball, Sullivan was 9 of 10 passing for 54 yards. Wayne freshman
Tayib Toussaint was the top receiver with three catches for 30 yards.

Jon Davis led the Wildcats with 10 tackles. Redshirt freshman
Logan Weinandt added five tackles that included two tackles for loss, one sack and a pass breakup. Senior linebacker
Nate Kroupa also had five tackles.
Wayne State will be at home next weekend, hosting Concordia-St. Paul in an NSIC South Division contest beginning at 1 p.m. at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.
