Michaela Mestl to rally from a first set deficit as the Wildcats downed Minnesota State 25-27, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-20 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played Friday evening at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minnesota. WSC is now 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC while MSU falls to 9-5 and 3-3 in league play.
The host Mavericks used 19 kills in the first set to outlast the Wildcats 27-25. The second set saw WSC rebound as the Wildcats used eight kills from senior
Katie Hughes while recording three service aces as Wayne State won the set 25-17 to even the match.
WSC controlled the third set by recording 17 kills while forcing six MSU attack errors as the 'Cats cruised to a 25-13 set win. The fourth set was closer with 10 ties and six lead changes, but WSC broke away from a 19-19 tie and forced 11 Maverick attack errors in the final set to finish with a 25-20 win to capture the match 3-1.
Wayne State hit .238 in the match compared to .161 for Minnesota State. WSC had a 58-50 edge in kills on MSU, but was out-blocked 9-2 by the Mavericks. WSC had five service aces and took advantage of 12 MSU service errors.

Katie Hughes had a big match for the Wildcats with 17 kills and 19 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Junior
