Carys Hund scored two goals to lead Wayne State College in a 4-1 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over the University of Sioux Falls in the home finale at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats improve to 4-10-3 overall and 4-9-1 in the NSIC while the Cougars fall to 2-13-1 and 1-12-1 in league play.
Wayne State opened the scoring at the 11:13 mark when Hund received a cross from
Suenly Galvez and scored in front of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Sioux Falls knotted the score in the 24
th minute when Chessa Novotny found the back of the net for the Cougars.
The Wildcats took the lead for good at 2-1 at the 30:16 mark thanks to an own goal when USF attempted to clear the ball but instead went into the goal.
It took just under four minutes for WSC to get on the scoreboard in the second half as
Kelsey Engstrom scored with an assist from
Natalie Rech putting the Wildcats in front 3-1.
Wayne State added an insurance goal at the 55:27 mark when
Brooke Buzzell executed a perfect pass to Hund from the top of the box that resulted in Hund's second goal of the day giving the 'Cats a 4-1 victory.
The Wildcats finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots over the Cougars including 11-2 in shots on goal. WSC held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks and was called for 11 fouls to just four on the Cougars.
Hund led WSC offensively with two goals and three shots, all on goal. Engstrom recorded her third goal of the season while freshman
Brooke Buzzell had a team-high four shots with two on goal. Buzzell,
Suenly Galvez and
Natalie Rech each had assists for the Wildcats.
Junior goalkeeper
Kylie Comba picked up the win, allowing one goal while registering one save.
The Wildcats will close out the season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at Southwest Minnesota State.
