Katie Hughes recorded her 15
th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs to propel #3 Wayne State College in a 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win Saturday afternoon over Minnesota State at Rice Auditorium. The Wildcats move to 23-4 overall and 15-3 in the league with the win while MSU falls to 15-11 and 9-9 in the NSIC.
WSC built an early 10-3 lead in the first set and never looked back recording a 25-14 set win. The 'Cats hit .265 while forcing seven Maverick attack errors.
The second set was closer despite just one tie and one lead change. WSC jumped out to a 14-7 advantage, but MSU closed within two at 21-19 before WSC closed out the set strong for a 25-22 win.
The Wildcats built leads of 16-8 and 18-10 before the Mavericks made things interesting and got as close as three at 22-19 to force a WSC timeout. With WSC leading 23-21, Wildcat junior
Michaela Mestl recorded a kill and service ace to close out the match for a 25-21 set win.
Wayne State held a .250-.209 advantage in hitting percentage over the Mavericks. The 'Cats also had a 42-39 edge in kills on the Mavericks, but WSC had six service aces while forcing 10 service errors on the Mavericks.
Hughes paced Wayne State with her double-double of 15 kills and 13 digs. Junior

Wayne State will play their final home game of the season Tuesday night, entertaining #12 Nebraska-Kearney in the 10
th annual Black Out/Pack the House Night at Rice Auditorium.
