Game 1 - #10 St. Cloud State 7 Wayne State 0Game 2 - #10 St. Cloud State 5 Wayne State 0 #10 St. Cloud State held Wayne State to just six hits to sweep the Wildcats 7-0 and 5-0 in a Northern Sun Conference baseball doubleheader played Friday afternoon at chilly Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The host Huskies move to 26-2 and 10-2 in the NSIC while the Wildcats drop to 12-12 and 7-5 in league play.
The first game saw Wildcat starter
Eric Browning take a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but Wayne State was doomed with two errors that led to five unearned runs by St. Cloud State to pave the way for a 7-0 win over the Wildcats.
WSC was held to just four hits in the game with Nate Ackerman's first inning double the lone extra base hit.
Michael Herman,
Albert Johnson and
Zak Leighton each added singles.
Browning (1-3) allowed just three hits over five innings with five strikeouts and three walks, but was charged with five runs, all unearned. Reliever
Spencer Morris allowed two runs on two hits in one inning of relief.
The second game saw St. Cloud State starter Sheldon Miks fired a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the Huskies completed the sweep with a 5-0 win over the Wildcats.
A third inning single from
Curtis Bussard and a seventh inning single by
Michael Herman were the lone WSC hits in the contest as St. Cloud State recorded 11 hits off three Wildcat pitchers.
Senior lefthander
Matt Schulz (2-1) was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) over six innings on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Nick Ragan pitched one inning of relief and allowed two runs on three hits while
Connor Keating fired a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout.
Wayne State and St. Cloud State meet again Saturday in a NSIC doubleheader starting at noon in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
