Box Score Nebraska-Kearney 4 Wayne State 1 Wayne State College dropped a 4-1 non-conference women's soccer contest Thursday evening against in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney at Cunningham Field in Wayne. The Wildcats fall to 0-1-2 on the season while UNK moves to 1-0-2.
The visiting Lopers used an 11-3 shot advantage in the first half to score a pair of goals – the first from Montanna Hosterman near the 19 minute mark and the second by Evie Sintek at the 27:54 mark – for a 2-0 lead at intermission.
WSC had several scoring chances early in the second half, but missed shots on both sides of the goal.
UNK then put the game out of reach in the 75
th minute with a goal from Meaghan Pasbrig for a 3-0 advantage.
The Wildcats avoided the shutout with just under five minutes remaining when redshirt freshman
Bryana Garcia scored from an assist by
Hayley Hunter for a 3-1 score.
The Lopers then closed out the scoring in the final seconds as Reina Horikawa found the back of the net off a WSC deflection with one second to play making the final score 4-1.
UNK held a 16-10 edge in shots over WSC including 8-4 in shots on goal. The Lopers also held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks over the Wildcats.
Garcia scored Wayne State's goal while senior forward
Josie Brown led WSC in shots with six, including two on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Kylie Comba was credited with four saves while allowing four goals.
The Wildcats open Northern Sun Conference play at home Sunday afternoon entertaining Augustana University in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch
