Box Score Northern State 3 Wayne State 1 Northern State's Darian Leschewski recorded a hat trick to lead the Wolves in a 3-1 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over Wayne State College Saturday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. NSU is now 4-2-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in league play while the Wildcats fall to 0-5-2 and 0-4 in the NSIC.
Leschewski opened the scoring for NSU in the seventh minute for an early 1-0 lead.
Wayne State responded in the 18
th minute when junior
Kelsey Engstrom picked up a loose ball in front of the net and scored past NSU goalkeeper Brittany Tietz to even the score at 1-1.
Northern State scored again five minutes later, taking the lead for good when Leschewski found the back of the net for her second goal of the day.
The remaining goal was scored 50 seconds into the second half when Leschewski completed the hat trick at the 45:50 mark to give the Wolves a 3-1 win.
Northern State held a 17-9 advantage in shots with just two coming in the second half. The Wolves had one more corner kick than WSC, 6-5, while WSC was called for seven fouls to just two on Northern State.
Engstrom led WSC with her first goal of the season while
Josie Brown added three shots for the Wildcats.
Junior goalkeeper
Kylie Comba notched six saves while allowing three goals.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon, hosting Upper Iowa in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
