rd minute to lift Wayne State College in a 1-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats improve to 7-3-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the NSIC while the visiting Golden Eagles drop to 2-10-1 and 1-8-1 in league play.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half as WSC held a 5-4 edge in shots over UMC after 45 minutes of play.
Wayne State got on the scoreboard in the eighth minute of the second half as sophomore
Brooke Buzzell took a pass from the left wing by
Carys Hund and kicked the ball into the goal from about seven yards in front of the goal to put the Wildcats in front 1-0.
UMC had just one shot on goal the rest of the way as Wildcat senior goalkeeper
Kylie Comba made a save on a shot from Lorna McCall of Minnesota Crookston to preserve the 1-0 shutout win.
Wayne State held an 11-8 edge in shots over UMC including 5-2 in shots on goal. Both teams had four corner kicks while WSC was called for 13 fouls to eight on UMC.
Buzzell scored her fourth goal of the season to lead Wayne State while Hund notched the assist for her team leading ninth point of the season.
Sophie Ketchmark, Hanna Knight and Hund each had two shots to lead the Wildcats.
Senior goalkeeper
Kylie Comba recorded her fifth shutout of the year, recording two saves in the win.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting Bemidji State in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest.
