Wayne State splits with Golden Eagles

            Wayne State pounded out 22 hits in the opener for a 20-9 win but could not complete the sweep in the second game at Minnesota Crookston scored three unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 10-9 win over the Wildcats in Northern Sun Conference baseball played Sunday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.  UMC ends the weekend with a 3-1 series win.  WSC is now 4-17 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC.
            The Wildcats scored at least one run in every inning, highlighted by an eight-run fifth, as WSC rolled to a 20-9 win in the opener.
            Eight of the nine starters had at least two hits in the win, fueled by home runs from Bodie Cooper, Alex Kreft and Aaron Krier.
            Curtis Bussard ended the game 4 for 6 with three RBI.  Kreft was 3 for 5 with a homer, double and four RBI while Cooper had three hits including a homer and double.  Albert Johnson was 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI while Tanner Simons, Cody Jenkins, Chris May and Krier each finished with two hits.
            Taner Ledezma (2-2) recorded the pitching win, throwing five innings.  He struck out seven and gave up nine hits and six runs.  Tegan Nissen pitched the final two innings and was charged with three runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
            The second game saw UMC snatch victory from the Wildcats scoring three unearned runs in the top of the ninth for a heart breaking 10-9 win.
            Trailing 5-1 after 3 ½ innings of play, WSC used four runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 9-5 lead.
            UMC plated single runs in the seventh and eighth before producing three unprobable runs in the ninth for the win.
            WSC had 14 hits in the game, two more than Minnesota Crookston.
            Jenkins was 3 for 5 with a homer, double and three runs scored to lead the Wildcats.  Johnson also had three hits for WSC.  Kreft homered and was 2 for 4 with two RBI while Simons and Nate Ackerman also had two hits.
            Starter Mitch Ragan worked seven innings, fanning seven batters while allowing eight hits and six runs.  Reliever Joey Lenihan (0-2) was tagged with the pitching loss, charged with three hits and three runs (all unearned) with three strikeouts.
            Wayne State will be on the road Wednesday visiting Concordia-St. Paul for a 1:30 p.m. NSIC doubleheader.
