            Wayne State College completed a four-game sweep of Southwest Minnesota State with 15-14 and 10-6 wins over the Mustangs in Northern Sun Conference baseball played in Alexandria, Minnesota Saturday afternoon.  The games were scheduled to be played in Wayne this weekend but were moved to Knute Nelson Field in Alexandria due to rain.  WSC is now 13-24 on the season and 10-12 in the NSIC while SMSU is 6-31 and 4-18 in league play.    
            The opener saw the Wildcats score in every inning to win a wild 15-14 slugfest over the Mustangs.          
            SMSU took a 2-0 lead in the first, but WSC tied the score on a pair of bases loaded walks to Albert Johnson and Tanner Simons.
            WSC took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Mustangs produced six runs in the third inning to chase starting pitcher Spencer Johnson giving SMSU an 8-4 lead.
            The Wildcats knotted the score at 8-8 in the bottom of the third thanks to a three-run homer from Aaron Krier and a run-scoring single by Brandon Fowler.
            The fourth inning saw the Wildcats score twice on a pair of RBI groundouts from Nick McIntee and Alex Kreft giving WSC a 10-9 lead. 
            SMSU regained the lead at 11-10 in the fifth with a pair of runs, but WSC used a grand slam by Simons with two out in the fifth inning for a 14-11 advantage.
            The Mustangs tied the score in the top of the sixth with three runs to make it 14-14, but WSC used a leadoff single by Kreft and a double from Bussard to left field that scored Kreft with the game-winner for the 15-14 victory.
            Bussard, who came on in relief with one out in the sixth inning, retired the first two batters in the seventh followed by a walk but got a line drive to record the final out to seal the 15-14 win.
            WSC had 17 hits in the game, led by Bussard and Krier with four hits each.  Krier was 4 for 4 with a homer and four RBI while Bussard finished 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.  Tanner Simons was 2 for 3 with a grand slam and five RBI while Kreft and Brandon Fowler each added two hits in the win.
            Bussard (1-2) recorded the pitching win working the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one walk and no hits with two strikeouts.
            The second game saw the Wildcats connect for four home runs and starting pitcher Dalton Smith struck out 10 batters in five innings of work as the Wildcats completed the weekend sweep with a 10-6 win over the Mustangs.
            Tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, WSC used an Aaron Krier two-run homer to take a 3-1 lead.
            Leading 3-2 entering the fourth, Cody Jenkins and Bodie Cooper hit back-to-back homers to start the inning pushing the Wildcat lead to 5-2.
            Senior first baseman Albert Johnson, now on a 21-game hit streak, belted a two-run blast in the fifth giving the Wildcats a 7-3 advantage.
            Nick McIntee's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth allowed WSC to take a 9-3 lead.
            SMSU hit a pair of solo homers in the seventh to cut the Wildcat lead to 9-5, but WSC scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on a Chris May RBI single for a 10-5 Wildcat lead.
            The Wildcats had 14 hits in the win, led by Krier who was 4 for 5 with a homer, double and four runs scored.  Johnson finished 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBI's while Chris May was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.  Jenkins ended 2 for 5 with a homer while Bodie Cooper also homered in the win.
            Sophomore starter Dalton Smith (1-0) earned the pitching win, fanning 10 batters in five innings of work while allowing three runs on nine hits.  Brady Johnson, Connor Keating and Taner Ledezma each worked in relief to close out the win for the Wildcats.
Wayne State will visit Minnesota State Wednesday afternoon for a NSIC doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
