Christina Stasi scored her team-leading third goal of the season to help Wayne State College record a 1-1 double overtime tie at Northern State Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played in Aberdeen, South Dakota. WSC is now 3-3-4 overall and 2-2-3 in the NSIC while NSU is 3-5-1 and 2-4-1 in league games this season.
Stasi, a junior forward from Millard North, scored for Wayne State at the 11:00 mark of the contest with an assist from
Samantha Phillips to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
WSC maintained the advantage until the 59
th minute when Northern State's Emily Reiten scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 1-1.
The game went into overtime with NSU holding a 6-3 advantage in shots over the Wildcats in the two overtime sessions but neither team found the back of the net as the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
Wayne State had one more shot than Northern State – 16-15. The Wildcats ended with a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, but the host Wolves held the upper hand in corner kicks 13-5. NSU was called for 10 fouls, three more than the Wildcats.
Stasi recorded her team-best third goal of the season to lead the Wildcats. Freshman
Rylie Wehner had four shots followed by
Madison Burgard with three shots (two on goal). Stasi also had three shots for WSC.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Grisham ended the contest with two saves and one goal allowed.
Wayne State will be at home Friday afternoon hosting #13 Minnesota State in a 2 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
