Brahmer, Stephens power #21 Wildcats in sweep of MSU Moorhead

            Redshirt freshman Jaci Brahmer had a match-high 14 kills with five blocks while sophomore Katie Stephens added a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs to lead #21 Wayne State College in a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  The host Wildcats improve to 13-7 and 7-4 in the NSIC while the Dragons drop to 7-12 and 2-9 in league games.
            The first set saw Brahmer and Stephens carry the load for the Wildcats with seven kills apiece as WSC cruised to a 25-18 set win.  The Wildcats hit .371 in the set with 18 kills.
            The second set was much closer until the Wildcats pulled away late for a 25-17 win after only holding an 18-16 lead on the Dragons.  WSC forced 12 MSU Moorhead attack errors in the second set that included four blocks.  Sophomore Tarrin Beller led a balanced attack at the net for WSC with four kills.
            After building an early 10-4 lead in the third set, WSC had to rally after MSU Moorhead took a 16-14 lead before the 'Cats finished strong for a 25-20 third set win to complete the sweep.
            Brahmer closed the match with five kills in the third set to lead WSC while Alyssa Ballenger and Stephens each added three kills in the closing set.
            Wayne State finished the match with a .281 attack percentage on 46 kills with 12 errors and 121 attacks.  MSU Moorhead hit .104 with 36 kills and 23 errors on 125 attempts.
            The Wildcats held a 63-57 edge in digs and 9-7 in blocks over the Dragons.  Both teams had two service aces.
            Brahmer led the Wildcats with 14 kills and a stellar .481 attack percentage with just one error on 27 attacks.  Stephens followed with a double-double credited with 10 kills and 16 digs.
            Junior setter Megan Gebhardt accounted for 40 set assists while sophomore libero Haley Kauth produced 12 digs with freshman Hope Carter adding 10.  Brahmer led the 'Cats with five blocks followed by Tarrin Beller with four.
            The Wildcats will be on the road Tuesday evening for a non-conference match at Chadron State starting at 7 p.m. Central Time.
