Late free throws hand Wildcat men 69-68 setback to Minot State

            Minot State's Tyler Rudolph drained two charity tosses with 1.8 seconds remaining to give the Beavers a 69-68 victory over Wayne State College in a Northern Sun Conference men's basketball game played Saturday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  Minot State is now 10-1 and 4-1 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 7-4 and 3-2 in league play.
            Wayne State played from behind all night long and led just twice in the entire game.  The visiting Beavers scored the first 13 points of the game before WSC finally got on the board with a Tony Bonner basket at the 13:50 mark. 
            Minot State still led 22-8 at the 10:53 mark when the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run over the next 2:49 to get within two at 22-20 following a Trevin Joseph 3-pointer.
            WSC got as close as two again at 28-26 but the Beavers closed the half strong for a 35-28 lead at halftime.
            Minot State built an 11-point lead early in the second half at 39-28, but WSC rallied and took their first lead of the night at 44-43 on an Austin Esters layup with 11:13 remaining.
            The lead was short-lived as Minot State scored the next six points for a 49-44 lead. 
            The Beavers still led 60-53 with 3:50 remaining and was in front 67-62 with 1:10 to play.
            WSC used layups by Kendall Jacks and Joseph followed by a Jordan Cornelius layup to take a 68-67 lead with 10 seconds to play. 
            But Minot State's Tyler Rudolph was fouled in the lane with 1.8 seconds to play and drained both free throws to give the visiting Beavers a 69-68 victory.
            Joseph scored 18 points on 8 of 13 shooting to lead the Wildcats in scoring while Cornelius also hit double digits with 12.
            WSC was 28 of 55 shooting for 50.9 percent, going 5 of 13 behind the arc and 7 for 12 at the free throw line.
            Rudolph poured in 30 points for Minot State on 12 of 20 shooting and 6 for 6 at the free throw line while Luis Ricci Maia chipped in 16.
            The Beavers shot 54.7 percent making 29 of 53 shots, but was just 1 of 10 from the 3-point line.  Minot State made 10 of 13 free throws.
            WSC held a slim 28-26 advantage in rebounding over the Beavers with Jacks grabbing seven boards for WSC while Rudolph had eight for the Beavers.  The Wildcats had 10 turnovers in the game to nine on MSU.     
            Wayne State hosts Mount Marty College Monday evening in a non-conference game at Rice Auditorium starting at 7 p.m.
