St. Cloud State swept Wayne State College 13-7 and 9-1 Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference baseball played at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne, giving the Huskies a 3-1 win in the four-game weekend series. SCSU is now 14-6 and 5-3 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 7-12 and 2-6 in league play.
The first game saw the Huskies take advantage of six Wayne State errors to win 13-7. SCSU held a 6-2 lead after five innings, then the Huskies scored six runs in the top of the sixth with WSC countering for a five-run bottom half of the inning to make the score 12-7. St. Cloud State added one run in the seventh to make the final 13-7.
Cody Jenkins produced a three-run triple to highlight Wayne State's five-run sixth inning.
David Janes added an RBI single in the inning.
St. Cloud State held a 13-9 advantage in hits on the Wildcats. Jenkins ended 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBI while
Kyle Thompson was 2 for 3 with a double.
Jackson Petersen chipped in two hits while Janes and
Aaron Krier each singled.
Freshman starter Aiden Breedlove (1-3) was tagged with the pitching loss, charged with five runs on five hits in three innings of work.
Keenan Breen,
Adam Poldberg,
Lawson Zenner and
Dalton Smith each worked in relief for WSC.
The second game saw the Huskies complete the sweep with a 9-1 win. SCSU scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings followed by four in the seventh and two in the ninth while WSC produced its lone run in the fourth.
Kyle Thompson doubled in the fourth, advanced to third on a
David Janes single and scored on a St. Cloud State fielding error for Wayne State's lone run.
SCSU had 12 hits in the game to seven for WSC. Thompson was 3 for 4 with a double and single to lead the 'Cats at the plate.
Aaron Krier also doubled while
Tanner Simons, Janes and
Jake Lemar each had singles.
Senior lefthander
Teague McFadden (1-2) was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits with five strikeouts.
Kyle Kennebeck, Mitch Gullikson and
Gabe Hoogers each worked relief for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will host William Jewell College in a nine-inning game that has been moved up one day due to weather from Wednesday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon with game time set for 1 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
