Strong pitching carries Wildcats in NSIC sweep over Bemidji State

            Wayne State College used solid starts from freshman Aiden Breedlove and senior Teague McFadden as the Wildcats swept Bemidji State 4-2 and 10-2 in Northern Sun Conference baseball Saturday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.  WSC is now 18-18 and 13-11 in league games while BSU drops to 12-22 and 9-13 in the NSIC.
            The opener saw freshman starter Aiden Breedlove fire six innings of four hit ball as the Wildcats scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings to down Bemidji State 4-2.
            Each team scored in the first inning as David Janes' RBI single accounted for the Wildcat run.  WSC took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Cody Jenkins run-scoring single.
            After Bemidji State tied the score in the top of the fourth at 2-2, the Wildcats plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to finish with a 4-2 win.  Bodie Cooper had an RBI single in the fifth with Tanner Simons recording a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the final Wildcat run.
            WSC held a 6-4 advantage on hits in the win.  Jenkins was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Tanner Simons tripled with Jackson Petersen adding a double.
            Breedlove improved to 3-3 with the win, allowing just two runs on four hits in six innings of work with three strikeouts and one walk.  Junior Kyle Kennebeck came on in the seventh and retired all three batters with two on strikeout to notch his second save of the year.
            The second game saw the Wildcat offense produce 15 hits and 10 runs in support of senior starter Teague McFadden, who worked six strong innings, to help WSC post a sweep with a 10-2 win.
            WSC scored two in the first on RBI singles from Simons and Janes for a 2-0 lead.  The 'Cats made it 3-0 in the second on Jackson Petersen's RBI double.
            The Wildcats took an 8-0 lead in the fifth scoring five runs.  Simons had a three-run double for the key hit in the inning along with an RBI double from Jenkins.
            Both teams scored two runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.  Tandon Dorn had a sacrifice bunt to bring home one run with Peyton Barned producing an RBI single for the other run.
            WSC finished with 15 hits in the win.  Janes was a perfect 3 for 3 and two runs scored.  Jenkins was also 3 for 3 with a double.  Peyton Barnes finished 3 for 5 with two runs scored while Simons was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI. 
            McFadden (2-3) worked six strong innings for the pitching win, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.  Dalton Smith, Brady Johnson and Jordan Mehl each recorded one inning of relief.
Wayne State will be at home on Wednesday hosting Upper Iowa in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
