Freshman Aiden Breedlove fired a four-hit shutout in the opener while
Cody Jenkins went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBI's in the second game to lift Wayne State College in a 1-0 and 5-4 Northern Sun Conference baseball sweep Sunday afternoon over Northern State in games played at Fossum Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota. With the wins, the Wildcats move into fourth place in the NSIC at 18-12 in league play and 23-19 overall while the host Wolves slip to 17-23 and 10-18 in league play.
The opener saw Breedlove fire a four-hit shutout to carry the Wildcats in a 1-0 win.
The lone run of the game was scored in the second inning by WSC as
David Janes was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a NSU error, went to third on a walk to
Bodie Cooper and scored on a double play ball by
Tandon Dorn.
Northern State had one scoring threat in the fourth as the Wolves had three of their four hits in the inning and loaded the bases with just one out, but Breedlove got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Breedlove then retired the final nine Wolves batters in order and WSC held on for the 1-0 win.
WSC had just five hits in the win. Dorn was 2 for 3 with a double.

Peyton Barnes each singled.
Breedlove improved to 4-3 on the season with the first shutout of the season for the Wildcat pitching staff. He allowed just four hits in seven innings of work and fanned seven batters without issuing a walk.
The second game saw the Wildcats score the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as WSC completed the sweep and 3-1 series win with a 5-4 victory.
WSC scored two in the first on
Jackson Petersen's RBI single and a solo homer from
Cody Jenkins.
The 'Cats took a 4-0 lead in the third with two more runs on a Jenkins RBI double with the other run resulting on a passed ball that brought home
Tanner Simons (walk).
Northern State scored three runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the seventh to knot the score at 4-4.
WSC scored the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning without a hit as Jenkins opened with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Kyle Thompson sacrifice fly for a 5-4 Wildcat lead and eventual win.
Northern State had one more hit than WSC 10-9. Jenkins was 2 for 3 with a homer, double, two RBI and two runs scored. Petersen was 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Aaron Krier and
Tandon Dorn each added doubles.
Senior reliever
Keenan Breen improved to 7-0 on the season with one inning of relief in place of starter
Teague McFadden. McFadden worked six innings and allowed seven hits and three runs (all unearned) with three strikeouts and four walks. Breen got the win despite allowing one run on three hits, but had three strikeouts.
Kyle Kennebeck pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit, giving up just one walk to preserve the 5-4 win.
Wayne State is on the road Wednesday afternoon for a 1:30 p.m. NSIC doubleheader at Concordia-St.
