Box Score Wayne State 1 Augustana 1 (2 OT)
Wayne State College opened the 2017 women's soccer season with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Augustana University in Northern Sun Conference play at Sioux Falls, South Dakota Thursday evening.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half with the host Vikings holding an 11-6 edge in shots over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats made the first score of the contest early in the second half at the 54:48 as junior forward
Christina Stasi found the back of the goal from the right side of the box with an assist from
Carleigh Wilson giving WSC a 1-0 lead.
Augustana tied the score with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation as Samantha Tymkowicz scored a goal at the 79:21 mark to make the score 1-1.
WSC had a chance to take the lead in the final six minutes when a shot on a free kick from
Alexis Strothers hit the crossbar to keep the score at 1-1 heading into overtime.
The Wildcats held a 2-1 shot edge in the first overtime while Augustana had a 5-0 advantage on shots in the second overtime as neither team scored to end in 1-1 double overtime tie.
Augustana finished the contest with a 29-13 edge in shots and 12-4 advantage on corner kicks. Both teams were called for two offsides while WSC had one more foul than Augustana 7-6.
Christina Stasi led WSC with one goal.

Rachel Fraser were also credited with shots on goal for the Wildcats. Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Grisham made nine saves while allowing just one goal in her first collegiate start in goal.
Wayne State will host Colorado Christian Sunday at 11 a.m. at the WSC Soccer Pitch followed by a Monday afternoon 2 p.m. contest hosting Black Hills State.
