Rally by #15 Cal State San Bernardino hands WSC first loss

            #15 Cal State San Bernardino rallied from a two set deficit to outlast #13 Wayne State College Saturday afternoon at the 2017 Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Volleyball Classic in Golden, Colorado.  WSC won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-16 but CSSB rallied to win the final three sets 25-22, 25-19 and 18-16 to edge the Wildcats.  WSC is now 3-1 while the Coyotes are 2-1.
            The first set saw WSC break a 19-19 tie late and pull away for the 25-21 set win.  Jaci Brahmer produced five kills in the first set with Alyssa Ballenger recording nine digs for the 'Cats.
            WSC hit .419 in the second set with 13 kills and no errors to lead from start to finish in a 25-16 second set win.  Erin Gross led a balanced attack with four kills while the 'Cats defense forced eight attack errors on CSSB.
            Cal State San Bernardino started their comeback in the third set with a 25-22 win, holding WSC to a .108 attack percentage.  Ballenger and Brahmer had three kills for WSC in the third set.
            The Coyotes pounded 18 kills in the fourth set to take down the Wildcats 25-19 in the fourth set as WSC was held to a .091 attack percentage with nine kills and five errors. 
            The fifth set was a battle with the two teams trading nine ties and four lead changes.  WSC hit .333 in the set with 11 kills and just two errors but Cal State San Bernardino was slightly better at .393 with 14 kills and the Coyotes edged WSC 18-16 to get the win.
            WSC outhit Cal State San Bernardino in the match .221 to .202.  The Coyotes held a 71-58 edge in kills over WSC and had 10 more digs than the Wildcats 95-85.  WSC held a 13-8 advantage in blocks while the Coyotes had two more service aces than WSC 9-7.
            Jaci Brahmer paced WSC with 16 kills and six blocks.  Erin Gross added 14 kills with seven blocks while Maria Wortmann accounted for 11 kills and seven blocks. 
            Setter Megan Gebhardt was credited with 43 set assists and had two service aces while Haley Kauth finished with a team-high 24 digs followed by Alyssa Ballenger with 22.
            Wayne State will be back in Colorado next weekend, playing at the CSU Pueblo Tournament Friday and UC-Colorado Springs Tournament Saturday with two matches each day.
