Natalie Rech scored her first goal of the season in the 75
th minute for the lone goal of the contest to give Wayne State College a 1-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win Friday afternoon at MSU Moorhead. The Wildcats are now 3-3-3 and 2-2-2 in the NSIC while the host Dragons fall to 1-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the NSIC.
The first half was scoreless as the host Dragons held a 10-6 advantage in shots over the Wildcats. The game remained scoreless until the 75:22 mark when Rech's throw in went through the hands of MSU Moorhead goalkeeper Corina Edgington for the only goal of the contest.
MSU Moorhead held a 15-14 advantage in shots over WSC, but the 'Cats were up 8-4 in shots on goal. The Dragons had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks over the Wildcats while MSU Moorhead was called for 11 fouls to just two on WSC.
Rech paced Wayne State with her first goal of the year. Freshman
Rylie Wehner had a team-high four shots while
Lauren Fleming and
Alexis Strothers each added two shots apiece, both on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Grisham notched her third shutout of the year, credited with four saves in the win.
The Wildcats will play again Sunday afternoon in Aberdeen, South Dakota against Northern State in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest.
