Hot shooting Dragons roll past WSC men

Box Score             MSU Moorhead shot 57.6 percent for the game, making 34 of 59 shots, as the Dragons rolled past Wayne State College 90-66 in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball played Saturday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minnesota.  The host Dragons are now 5-13 and 3-9 in the NSIC while WSC drops to 10-10 and 5-7 in the NSIC South Division.
            The game was tight early until a late Dragon scoring surge to end the first half gave control of the contest to MSU Moorhead.
            WSC opened with an early 7-2 lead, but the Dragons scored the next eight points to take a 10-7 advantage.
            Wayne State's final lead came at 16-14 on a Trevin Joseph 3-pointer at the 11:00 mark of the first half.
            The Wildcats were still within three at 28-25 following a Kendall Jacks three-point play with 4:28 to go in the half.
            MSU Moorhead then scored the next 14 points and ended the half with a 45-30 lead.
            WSC mounted an early comeback in the second half and got as close as eight at 49-41 four minutes into the second half following a Vance Janssen layup.
            The Wildcats still trailed 58-48 at the 12:24 mark, but the host Dragons put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run over the next 2:11 to take a 68-48 advantage and the hot shooting MSU Moorhead club pulled away for the 90-66 win.
            Kendall Jacks led Wayne State with 14 points followed by Jordan Cornelius and Vance Janssen with 12 each.
            Wayne State was 27 of 63 shooting for 42.9 percent, going 7 for 25 (28%) from the 3-point line.  The 'Cats were just 5 of 7 at the foul line.
            Tanner Kretchman accounted for 25 points to lead MSU Moorhead.  Travaun Coad added 21 points and 12 rebounds while Johnny Beeninga also scored 21 points.
            The Dragons made 34 of 59 shots from the field for a sizzling 57.6 percent.  MSUM was 7 for 16 behind the arc and a perfect 15 of 15 at the charity stripe.
            MSU Moorhead held a commanding 40-23 advantage in rebounding over the Wildcats.  Cornelius had eight boards for WSC. 
            The Wildcats return to Rice Auditorium next weekend to start a four-game home stand as the Wildcats host Winona State Friday night at 8 p.m. and Upper Iowa Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest.
