Norling buzzer beater lifts Wildcats over Warriors 60-59

            Wayne State freshman Erin Norling hit a jumper as time expired to give WSC a thrilling 60-59 win over Winona State in Northern Sun Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at McCown Gymnasium in Winona, Minnesota.  The Wildcats extend their win streak to 10 games and are now 24-6 and 18-4 in the NSIC while the host Warriors drop to 14-12 and 10-12 in conference play. 
            The first quarter saw two ties and four lead changes before the Wildcats took a 19-13 lead after one quarter of play.
            Wayne State continued to hold the lead through the second quarter until Winona State tied the game 28-28 with 1:06 remaining in the half with two made free throws from Hannah McGlone.  WSU outscored WSC 15-9 in the second quarter to make it a 28-28 tie game at half.        
            Winona State came out of the intermission hot, making 8 of 14 shots (57.1%) to lead 49-44 after the third quarter.
            The Wildcats responded in the final quarter, going on a 5-0 run to start the fourth and tie the game 49-49 using a three-pointer from sophomore Evelyn Knox and two made free throws by Maggie Schulte
            Both teams continued to trade baskets as the fourth quarter experienced two ties and seven lead changes.
            WSU took a 59-58 lead with 1:04 left in the contest and held the lead until the final shot of the game.  The last minute saw the Warriors miss a jumper and free throw.  Wayne State took only one shot in the final minute of the game, a buzzer beater by Erin Norling to give Wayne State a 60-59 win.
            Senior Maggie Schulte led the Wildcats with 20 points and five rebounds followed by Erin Norling with 14 points and the game-winner. 
            WSC finished the game shooting 23 of 45 (51.1%) from the field and was 6 of 14 behind the 3-point arc.  The 'Cats were a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.
            Hannah McGlone paced Winona State in scoring with 16 points while Gabie Doud added 14 and Allie Pickrain added 11. 
            The Warriors made 24 of 54 shots for 44.4 percent, going 6 of 14 from 3-point range and 5 for 7 at the free throw line.
            Winona State outrebounded Wayne State 29-22.  Schulte grabbed five rebounds while senior Paige Ballinger hauled in four and had five assists.
            The Wildcats will be at home in the first round of the NSIC Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening hosting Minnesota Crookston at Rice Auditorium with game time to be announced.
