Salute to Veterans, Class of 59 reunion and Senior Day highlight Wayne State baseball final home weekend vs. Sioux Falls

            Wayne State College hosts Sioux Falls in a key four-game NSIC baseball series this weekend at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex with Saturday's doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. followed by a noon start Sunday.  The Wildcats enter the weekend seventh in the NSIC standing at 13-13 in league play and 15-21 overall while Sioux Falls is close behind at 10th in the league at 13-15 in NSIC games and 13-25 on the season.
            The final weekend of home games is also highlighted by several special events and presentations, starting Saturday before the first game with a Salute to Veterans that will include an honorary first pitch and presentation of colors by the Wayne State College ROTC. 
            Between the first and second games Saturday Wayne State athletics will welcome and honor the first-ever Wayne State College baseball team from 1959.  The team coached by Russ Young went 8-4 and captured the Nebraska College Baseball Conference title in its first year of play.
            Members of the Wayne State Teachers College team in 1959 were (in alphabetical order) - Russ Alexander of Webb, Iowa, Bob DeBlauw from Crofton, Bob Ditman of Winside, Ron Heermann from Pilger, Dal Isom of Carroll, Pat Keitges from Holstein, Iowa, Merlin Mitteis of Orchard, Loyd Maskell of Ponca, Tom Maas from Stanton, Ron Raver of Craig, Bob Schnitzler from Humphrey, Gary Spear of Scribner, Jerry Thomsen from Osmond, Hugh Troshynski of Page, Jerry Wisnieski from Dodge, Everett Yockey of Anthon, Iowa and Lowell Zimmerman of Lyons.
             Approximately 10 players from the 1959 team plan on attending Saturday's games at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
            To close out a busy weekend on Sunday, Wayne State baseball will honor seven seniors playing their final games at home this weekend.
