Montana State Billings handed Wayne State College a 2-0 defeat Saturday afternoon in the 2018 women's soccer season opener for the Wildcats played at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, Colorado. The Yellowjackets improve to 1-0-1 on the year with WSC at 0-1.
The Yellowjackets got on the scoreboard first, midway through the opening half, as Alexa Iacolucci blasted a free kick from 25-yards out into the rightside of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Montana State Billings held a 6-2 edge in shots on goal over the Wildcats in the first half.
The second half was a stalemate until just under 10 minutes to play when Montana State Billings added an insurance goal with Amanda Grimshaw scoring on a kick from 30 yards away for a 2-0 advantage.
Wayne State had two scoring chances in the final 10 minutes, but a free kick from Sophie Ketchmark at the 84:16 mark was denied for a save while a header from
Brooke Buzzell off a corner kick at the 86:31 mark went high to deny the Wildcats a chance to get back into the contest.
Montana State Billings finished with an 11-8 edge over Wayne State in shots and 10-4 in shots on goal. WSC two corner kicks to just one for the Yellowjackets while MSUB was called for eight fouls to six on the Wildcats.

Junior goalkeeper
Rachel Grisham had eight saves for the Wildcats allowing two goals while playing all 90 minutes.
