Augustana used a pair of first half goals to stand up in a 2-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory over Wayne State College Friday afternoon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The host Vikings clinched a first round home game next week in the NSIC Tournament, improving to 14-3-1 overall and 12-2-1 in the NSIC while WSC finishes the regular season 6-8-4 and 6-7-2 in the NSIC. The Wildcats are eighth place in the NSIC but have to wait for the result of the Upper Iowa at Winona State match (5 p.m.) to determine if WSC qualifies for the NSIC Tournament next week.
The host Vikings controlled the first half and scored a pair of goals. The two teams played to a stalemate in the second half with both teams recording four shots on goal.
Augustana recorded goals at the 17:23 mark followed by another at the 33:48 mark of the first half to take a 2-0 lead at intermission. The Vikings held an 11-3 edge in shots and 6-2 in shots on goal during the first half.
Neither team scored in the second half with stats on the two teams fairly similar. WSC held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks during the half but could not convert into goals. Augustana outshot the 'Cats 12-9 while both teams had four shots on goal.
Augustana finished the contest with a 23-12 advantage in shots and 10-6 in shots on goal. The Vikings had one more corner kick than WSC, 4-3, and were called for one more foul than the Wildcats 8-7.
Wehner led WSC with five shots, all on goal.

Wayne State's fate of advancing to the NSIC Tournament for the first time since 2006 rests in the result of the Upper Iowa at Winona State match at 5 p.m. A Winona State win would give the Warriors one more point than WSC (21-20) and the eighth and final spot in the NSIC Tournament. A Winona State tie or loss would give Wayne State the eighth seed for next week's NSIC Tournament.
