Wildcats shut down Marauders for 67-48 NSIC road win

            Wayne State forced a season-high 21 turnovers and held Mary to a season-low 48 points as the Wildcats pulled away in the second half for a 67-48 Northern Sun Conference men's basketball victory over the University of Mary at the McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.  WSC is now 16-5 overall and 11-4 in league play while the host Marauders fall to 9-12 and 6-9 in NSIC games.
            The first half was a back and forth battle with neither team holding a lead of more than four points.
            Mary's biggest lead was four at 16-12 with 10:58 to play in the first half.  WSC went on a 10-2 run and took a 22-18 lead following a Trevin Joseph layup with 7:13 to go before halftime.
            The final lead for the Marauders came at 25-23 with 4:41 left before halftime, then WSC scored the final six points of the first half to take a 29-25 lead at the break.
            Mary got as close as two in the first minute of the second half at 32-30.
            The Wildcats took control of the game midway through the second half, holding Mary without a basket for 8:42 while going on a 16-0 run.
            With WSC leading 42-36, the 'Cats scored 16 straight points over a span of 6:51 to take a 58-36 lead and the Wildcats cruised the rest of the way for the 67-48 win.
            Senior guard Trevin Joseph led WSC in scoring with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 6 from the 3-point line.  It was his eighth game this season with 20 or more points.
            Freshman forward Jordan Janssen recorded his third straight double-double and seventh of the season by scoring 11 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.
            Senior forward Kendall Jacks was held under double digits for the first time this season, spending most of the night in foul trouble while recording just four points on 2 of 7 shooting.
            Wayne State finished the game making 23 of 55 shots for 41.8 percent, including 9 for 22 behind the arc.  The Wildcats were 12 for 13 (92.3%) at the charity stripe.
            Mary's lone double figure scorer was Matt Kreklow with 10 points.
            The Marauders shot 32.6 percent from the field on 15 of 46 and was 6 for 18 from the 3-point line while making 12 of 13 free throws.  WSC held Mary to just 25 percent shooting (6-24) in the second half.
            Mary won the rebounding battle 33-27 despite Jordan Janssen's 12 rebounds.  The Wildcats forced Mary into 21 turnovers while WSC had just 10 on the night.
            Senior guard Vance Janssen was credited with four of Wayne State's 10 assists and also had two steals.
            WSC will visit Minot State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to close out their NSIC North Division road trip.
