Obrecht impressive in first collegiate start as Wildcats down Dakota Wesleyan 11-1

            Wayne State freshman Ryan Obrecht fired six innings of one run ball with eight strikeouts to lead the Wildcats in an 11-1 seven inning victory over Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday evening at the Tucson Invitational Baseball Tournament in Arizona.  WSC is now 7-4 on the season with DWU dropping to 3-8.
            The Wildcats scored solo runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.  A Bryce Bisenius sacrifice fly in the first scored Alex Logelin (error) with the first run while Colin Chick's single in the second brought home Kyle Thompson (single) for the second run.
            Dakota Wesleyan scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning to trim the Wildcat advantage to 2-1.  WSC then put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth and four-run fifth to close out the scoring.
            Wayne State scored five runs in the fourth on four hits.  Peyton Barnes started the scoring with an RBI single that scored Thompson (hit by pitch).  CJ Neumann followed with a two-run triple that brought home Garrett Graveline (single) and Barnes (single) with Bisenius adding a two-run single that scored Brendan Madsen (hit by pitch) and Neumann.        
            The Wildcats had just one hit in their four-run fifth inning, but took advantage of five walks.  Alex Logelin had the lone hit of the inning, but it was a three-run double that scored Madsen, Neumann and Graveline (walks).
            Wayne State held an 8-6 advantage in hits over Dakota Wesleyan.  Barnes was the lone Wildcat with a multi-hit game, going 2  for 3 with two singles and two runs scored.  Neumann tripled and had two RBI and two runs scored with Logelin adding a three-run double. 
            Obrecht, a graduate of Millard North HS, worked six strong innings on the hill to notch his first collegiate win.  He allowed six hits and one run while fanning eight to go with one walk.  Junior reliever Lawson Zenner worked a perfect seventh inning striking out all three batters he faced.
            Wayne State will close out play in Arizona on Thursday with a doubleheader against Mount Marty College beginning at 11 a.m.
