Game 2 - #7 Winona State 10 Wayne State 0
#7 Winona State blanked Wayne State College 9-0 in five innings and 10-0 in the home finale for the Wildcat softball team Wednesday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne. The Wildcats drop to 12-31 and 3-23 in the NSIC while the visiting Warriors remain unbeaten in NSIC play at 26-0 and 41-5 overall.
The story of the first game was a no-hitter thrown by Winona State's Jordyn Kleman in the 9-0 Warrior victory.
She allowed a first inning walk to
Kim Vidlak and a fifth inning free pass to
Kamryn Sparks for the only Wildcat base runners in the contest.
Sophomore
Maddie Moser fired a complete game in the loss for the Wildcats.
The second game saw the Wildcats stay with the Warriors until late in the contest as Winona State scored three runs in the fourth and four more in the seventh for a 10-0 win to complete the sweep.
Down 3-0 entering the bottom of the third, WSC got two runners on with a single by
Raquell Penke and
Kortney Buresh hit by a pitch before a fielder's choice and line out ended the Wildcat scoring threat.
Winona State then put the game out of reach with a three-run fourth and a four-run seventh for a 10-0 final score.
WSC had four hits in the contest, led by
Taylor Menard going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.
Morgan Vasa and Penke also singled.
Freshman starter
Makenna Adkison (6-14) suffered the pitching loss in three innings of work. Senior
Riley Vanderveen pitched three innings of relief with Moser pitching the final frame.
The Wildcats close out the regular season this weekend at Bemidji State Saturday and Minnesota Crookston Sunday with doubleheaders starting at noon each day.
