The 19
th-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team never trailed in controlling MSU Moorhead in the Northern Sun Conference volleyball opener for both teams played Friday evening at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minnesota. Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-9. WSC is now 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play while MSU Moorhead drops to 5-4 and 0-1 in the NSIC.
WSC took an early 6-1 lead in the opening set and forced eight MSU Moorhead attack errors in the opening set to post a 25-16 win. Freshman
Kelsie Cada paced WSC at the net with five kills followed by
Katie Stephens with four.
The 'Cats jumped to an early lead in the second set (10-3) and never looked back in taking down the Dragons 25-14 and WSC finished off MSU Moorhead in the third set 25-9 with Cada notching six kills in seven attacks while
Maddie Duffy served up two aces in the set to help complete the sweep.
Wayne State finished the match with a .361 attack percentage on 43 kills, eight errors and 97 attacks while MSU Moorhead hit .143 with 26 kills on 14 errors and 84 attempts. The 'Cats had two more digs than the Dragons, 39-37, while MSUM held a 4.5 to 3.0 advantage in blocks over the Wildcats.
Cada led WSC with 14 kills and a .407 attack percentage followed by
Tarrin Beller with eight kills. Junior defensive specialist
Hope Carter had 11 digs while junior
Maddie Duffy added three service aces. Redshirt freshman setter
Rachel Walker handed out 29 set assists.
Wayne State visits #8 Northern State Saturday at 2 p.m. to close out their NSIC road trip.
