Bryce Bisenius went 2 for 4 with a grand slam and two run homer along with seven RBI in the opener to help Wayne State earn a non-conference college baseball split at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas Friday afternoon.  The Wildcats won the opener 14-10 followed by a 10-6 loss to the host Jets in the second contest.  WSC is now 5-4 on the year while Newman is 4-8.
            In the opener, the Wildcats built a 9-2 lead only to watch the home team Jets rally for a 10-9 advantage.  WSC then rallied with five runs in the top of the ninth to steal a 14-10 victory over Newman.
            WSC opened the scoring in the top of the first on a two-run homer from 
Bryce Bisenius for a 2-0 lead. The 'Cats added another run in the second on a solo blast from 
Jake Lemar for a 3-0 advantage.
            After Newman scored a run in the bottom of the second, Wayne State erupted for five runs in the third on six hits to take an 8-1 lead. One of the key hits in the inning was a grand slam homer from Bisenius while 
Brendan Madsen added an RBI single.
            Wayne State took a 9-2 lead in the fourth inning as 
Noah Roberts doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bisenius.
            The Jets produced single runs in the fourth and seventh innings to cut Wayne State's lead to 9-4.
            Newman shocked the Wildcats by scoring six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 10-9 lead entering the ninth.
            WSC returned the favor by scoring five runs in the top of the ninth to retake the lead. 
Alex Logelin and 
Andrew Hanson each belted solo homers to start the inning giving the 'Cats an 11-10 lead. Madsen added a two-run double while Roberts capped the ninth inning rally with an RBI single to give Wayne State the wild 14-10 win.
            Wayne State out-hit Newman in the opener 17-13. Bisenius finished 2 for 4 with a grand slam and two-run homer and seven RBI. Hanson was 3 for 4 with a homer, double and three runs scored. Roberts also had three hits with a double and two runs scored. Other top Wildcat hitters were Madsen going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI, Logelin was 2 for 6 with a homer and two runs scored while Lemar went 2 for 5 with a homer.
            Sophomore left-hander 
Andrew Staebell was the fifth Wildcat pitcher in the game and recorded the win in relief. He worked the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed just two hits and no runs with one strikeout and two walks. Starter 
Aidan Breedlove worked 3 1/3 innings and was charged with three hits and three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts.
            The second game saw Newman score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 6-6 tie as the Jets salvaged a split of the doubleheader with a 10-6 victory.
            WSC scored two runs in the first to take an early lead as Madsen reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball while Logelin doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hanson.
            Newman took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the first and second, but WSC came back with one run in the fourth to cut the Jets' lead to 4-3.  Lemar's double to right field brought home 
Noah Roberts, who walked.
            The Jets scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-3 lead, but WSC responded with three runs in the top of the fifth with two outs and no runners on base to even the score at 6-6.  Hanson started the scoring with a solo homer with 
CJ Neumann adding a two-run double that brought home Bisenius (walk) and Roberts (single).
            But Newman took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added another run in the sixth to close out the scoring for a 10-6 win.
            WSC had seven hits in the contest by seven different players.  Hanson homered while Logelin, Neumann and Lemar each doubled.
            Reliever 
Aaron Ras (0-2) suffered the pitching loss, charged with three runs in the sixth inning.  Starter 
Hunter Wienhoff worked the opening 1 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on five hits.  
Brody Sintek (2 1/3 innings) and Mitch Gullikson (1 inning) also worked in relief for the Wildcats.
            The Wildcats and Jets are scheduled to close out their three-game series with a nine-inning game Saturday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
