Wayne State's women's soccer team beat the University of Mary by a score of 2-1 in NSIC action Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats improve to 4-6-2 on the season and 4-4-1 in conference action while the visiting Marauders fall to 7-2-3 and 6-1-2 in league play.
           The Marauders scored first with Noelle Vigneri putting the ball in the back of the net for the University of Mary at the 24:33 mark. The Wildcats scored less than two minutes later after a WSC corner kick bounced off a Mary defender for an own goal. The score stayed knotted up into the intermission at 1-1.
           In the second half Wayne State used a goal from junior midfielder
Payton Haliburton off of a free kick approximately 35 yards out at the 75:04 mark to go up 2-1. The ball floated over the goalkeeper's hands into the back of the net for what turned out to be the game winning goal.
           Mary held two more shots than WSC (9-7) and had three more shots on goal 6-3. WSC had less fouls in the match 11-10 while UMary had more corner kicks 10-6. The 'Cats had more saves 4-2 in the match.
           Scoring her third goal of the season was Haliburton on her only shot of the afternoon. WSC was lead in shots by
Abby Sutton and Annika Syvryd with two apiece.
           Sophomore goalkeeper
Katherine Hageman had four saves and one goal against in the match getting the win in the net for WSC. Her record improves to 4-4-2.
           The Wildcats host Minot State Sunday at 12 p.m. in an NSIC contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
