Wayne State and Minnesota Duluth battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in NSIC women's soccer Friday evening at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. The Wildcats are now 4-6-4 on the season and 4-4-3 in the NSIC while the Bulldogs are 2-10-2 overall and 2-7-2 in league games.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half with UMD holding a 9-8 edge in shots while WSC had seven shots on goal compared to four by the Bulldogs.
Minnesota Duluth opened the scoring in the 59
th minute when Sarah Stange scored an unassisted goal that put the Bulldogs in front 1-0.
Wayne State responded with their own unassisted goal 12 minutes later when
Annika Syvrud scored at the 71:19 mark to even the score at 1-1.
UMD had a sizeable 12-4 advantage in shots over WSC in the second half while both teams had two corner kicks.
The first overtime saw UMD record both shots of the 10 minute extra session with one on goal. The second extra session saw both teams record two shots on goal with neither team scoring for the 1-1 tie.
Minnesota Duluth held a 25-14 advantage in shots and 13-12 in shots on goal. WSC had one more corner kick than the Bulldogs 4-3.
Syvrud scored the lone goal for the 'Cats, notching three shots (two on goal).
Madison Kemp recorded a team-high five shots on goal followed by
Abby Sutton with three.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katherine Hageman was stellar in net recording 12 saves while allowing just one goal.\
WSC will visit St. Cloud State Sunday afternoon for an NSIC contest starting at 1 p.m.
