Wayne State opens the 2021-22 basketball season this weekend in Shawnee, Oklahoma as the Wildcats face host Oklahoma Baptist Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the GAC/NSIC Challenge. The Wildcats return all five starters from last year's team that was 11-7 overall and won the NSIC South Division for the second time in three seasons with a 10-4 league mark. WSC was picked second overall and tied for first in the South Division in the Preseason NSIC Men's Basketball Coaches Poll released October 28th. Oklahoma Baptist was also an NCAA Tournament team last season and returns five starters after going 16-6 and 14-3 in the Great American Conference (first place). The Bison reached the NCAA South Central Regional semi-finals last year and are picked first in the GAC Preseason Men's Basketball Coaches Poll this season. Southeastern Oklahoma State returns five starters from last year's team that went 8-11 overall and 7-10 in the GAC and was picked to finish fourth in this year's GAC Preseason Men's Basketball Coaches Poll.
