Wayne State opens the 2021-22 women's basketball season Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. contest at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. The game will be played at Fugate Gymnasium.  WSC was 6-10 overall and 5-9 in the NSIC South Division last season while Newman was 4-18 and 4-18 in the MIAA as both teams played abbreviated schedules due to COVID-19.  This marks the fi rst time the two teams have met in a decade as WSC has won all four meetings against the Jets with the most recent meeting coming in the 2011-12 season, a 76-67 win by the Wildcats in Wayne.
